When Faith Is Confronted With Fear

In Psalm 31 David expresses his frustration and his fear. In verse 1 he says “O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don't let me be disgraced.” David feels somewhat overwhelmed by the presence of the enemy around him. I know that sometimes we too feel this same fear and frustration. I like what he says in verse 6 “I hate those who worship worthless idols I trust in the Lord.” His statement is one of distrust in how the world is going and has created enemies for him. He has chosen to follow the way of the Lord and because of that, he has developed many enemies.
Yet in verses 9 through 11 he says “Have mercy on me Lord for I am in distress, tears blur my eyes, my body and soul are withering away I am dying from grief, my years are shortened by sadness, sin has drained my strength, I am wasting away from within. I am scorned by all my enemies and despised by my neighbors, even my friends are afraid to come near me.” This is certainly a sad point to be at in one's life. Yet David handles it properly by staying in the hands and protection of the one and only true God.
Maybe you feel overwhelmed with the world's circumstances or maybe you feel like your years are being wasted away without a significant contribution. The answer is simply to seek God and stay in his presence. The Lord will deliver those who are faithful to him and we must never forget that although our enemies make much noise there is a steadfastness that comes from trusting in God. I pray that your fear fades and your faith increase as you trust in Jesus Christ and his strength. Blessings my friends.

Hope to see you soon,
Pastor Steve
