The Foolishness of God

We often look at scriptures and wonder why a loving God would do the things he does. However, the mistake is always ours. We try to understand God, as if we are capable of thinking like him. In 1 Corinthians 1:25 we read, “this foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and Gods weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.” The truth is that our finite minds will never completely understand God. That is why the wisdom of Proverbs encourages us to put our trust in him. Proverbs 1:7 says, “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline” and 12:15 says “Fools think like their own way is right, but the wise listens to others.” We only get ourselves in trouble when we begin to try to understand everything, as if we are capable of thinking like God. People have asked me why God would do something terrible as it appears sometimes in the scriptures. I always try to answer that first it is not our job to try to think like God and secondly God has always had our best intentions in mind. If that were not the case, he would not have sent his one and only son to die a criminal’s death on our behalf. The Bible says without faith, it is impossible to please God. It is absolutely necessary for us to trust in God. Even the things we don’t understand. I think about how short life is and realize the urgency of us getting the truth of God out to others. Even people who stand in opposition to God will someday pass from this earth and their only hope is to find peace with Christ first. There have always been scoffers who do not believe in God but ask the rich man in the story of ‘Lazarus and the Rich Man’ if he made a mistake. Please put your full trust in Christ and in his Holy Word while there is still time.

Blessings my friends,
Pastor Steve
