When I was growing up, there was a song that said,
I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.
The song reached number 18 on the top 20 chart. Okay so we’re not real familiar with what rain is right now but my point is that in today’s scripture I want to share the story of a man who is called blind Bartimaeus. Mark 10:47 says “when Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!” At first, it seemed as if Jesus didn’t hear him. The crowd rebuked him calling him, disruptive and noisy. Despite the lack of concern from those around him, he continued to call out to Jesus. As he called louder and louder, he finally drew the attention of Jesus. As he came to Jesus, he asked him what do you want me to do for you? The blind man said “I want to see” Jesus said to him “go, for your faith has healed you.”
There are many issues in life that we have trouble seeing clearly. My advice is that we follow the example of Bartimaeus who used to be called “blind Bartimaeus” for the evidence shows that his interaction with Jesus was life changing. Lets truly pray with an open heart and an open mind that God will guide us in the mysteries of life.
