Independence Day

Independence Day
In July we celebrate our independence as a nation. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. There is also another type of freedom I would like to tell you about. It seems that today many people are haunted by their past. The Bible says that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. I like to say we’re all on the same playing field. However, I’m aware that many people are haunted by their past to the point that they have trouble making anything productive of their current life and plans for the future. Don’t let your past ruin your future. Make the most of every day and every opportunity. Here are five practical helps.

1.       Ask God for help and to forgive you of your past sins.
2.       Focus more on the opportunities ahead instead of the failures of the past.
3.       Surround yourself with positive people who can be an encouragement to you.
4.       Never give up. Realize that God has a beautiful plan for your life.
5.       Finally, I like the old saying that I heard years ago “the next time Satan reminds you of your past remind him of his future.”

Additional Scripture:
Ephesians 5:16-18
2 Corinthians 5:16-17
