“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.” Abraham Lincoln. The Bible tells of a time when people became anxious and chose to make their own gods. They collected gold items, melted them down, and created a golden calf to worship. God was not pleased with their actions and wanted to destroy them. However, Moses pleaded with God not to destroy them and gathered the people for a meeting. The people were called to make a decision to follow the one true God. That day 3000 people died from a choice to make their own gods to worship. I think this is what Abraham Lincoln was referring to.
We have taken our eyes off of the one true God and created our own god called selfishness. We are choosing the things that we desire instead of following God’s will. As a result, we have created a man-made god. Today we try to do whatever can be done to keep everyone happy and content. In turn, we leave the truth of the morals of God. I pray that God will forgive our sins and heal our land. The faith that shaped early America is still available today as it was for Lincoln and your grandparents.
One last warning. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3 “In the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving they will slander others and have no self- control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly.” This is not just a warning but a prophecy of sinful choices. We can do better. Jesus says the two greatest commands are to love God and then love your neighbor. If we could turn from selfishness and turn back to God our country would recover but like he always does God leaves the decision up to you.
Be blessed friends,
