God’s Point of View
In Mark 8, Jesus has just predicted His death and is now rebuking Peter. He says, “You
are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.” One of life’s great
challenges is learning to see things from God’s perspective rather than our own. I
recently heard about a child who said, “It sounds like we will spend a lot more time in
heaven than we do on earth.” That is certainly true for those who are faithful—but what
does that mean for how we live now? Jesus said, “If any of you wants to be my follower,
you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.” He teaches that if
we try to hold on to the things of this world, we will lose what matters most. But if we
surrender everything to Him, we will discover the true peace we were created to live
with. In verses 36 and 37, Jesus asks two startling questions: “What do you benefit if
you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your
soul?” Jesus is calling us away from the things of the world and toward the things of
God. This life is our opportunity to submit to Christ and commit to His ways. Scripture
not only shows us that this is the wise decision; it tells us plainly that it is the only
decision that will bring the fulfillment God intended for our lives. Be blessed, my friends.
I hope to see you Sunday.
