Devotion-Peace Like a River
Maybe you have heard of the hymn that sings about peace like a river. Rivers can
sometimes be terrifying as many have witnessed lately with all of the flooding. However,
rivers can also be very soothing as you listen to the sound of water flowing across the
stones.
So, let’s talk about peace for a moment. Real peace can only come from God. Peace is
not a result of the absence of storms It is a result of trusting in God, during the storms.
We know that in life there are always times that things seem overwhelming and it’s in
those times that you may ask how can there be such a thing as peace?
Remember, peace comes from knowing Jesus Christ, not from circumstances or hoping
that nothing bad happens but understanding that if it does, Jesus is there to take us
through.
Whether we’re in the valley or climbing the mountain real peace comes from trusting in
Jesus. Philippians 4:6–7 reminds us to bring our concerns to God through prayer and
thanksgiving, promising that “the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will
guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Peace is not found in knowing everything. Peace is found in knowing God.
