The Church In America

“The Church in America”

Let me start by saying I am not an expert on church growth. However, I have been a pastor for over thirty years and feel like I have learned a thing or two. I heard recently 80% of the churches in America are either stagnant or declining. I know for a fact many people who used to attend church no longer do. So here is my take on this issue.

First, many people have become tired of the church in general. Many churches do the same thing week after week and what seemed fun at one time has now become boring, it’s like watching the same television show every week. Secondly, most churches have turned inward, spending time, money, and efforts trying to please the people in the church instead of trying to reach people in the community. Finally, many churches overlook the real reason we even have church. The Bible refers to the church as the bride and Jesus as the bridegroom. What a unique idea. The church is to be one with Jesus as a husband and wife are to be united in love, commitment, and purpose. To overcome the secularization of the church there must be a revisited purpose and commitment. The Bible tells us we are to love God first, and then love others. The church must quit trying to please the selfish desires of its constituency and go back to reaching others for God. Our budget, efforts, and planning must center around what the Bible calls the Great Commission or making disciples. Please know this article is written with love and remember to be a part of the solution and not the problem.

Blessings my friends.
